Excel 2007 compatibility mode change removes all fonts on saving

All I do is bold (before and add color) to cells and save to 2003 format from
2007 and when I re-open spreadsheet, all new and most old formatting
disappears.

I ran adaware, cccleaner and full virus scam from symantec in case it's a
virus but still same problem.

Re-installed office just in case and still the same thing.

Any ideas?

Excel 2007 provides a lot of formatting options not available in 2003 or
earlier, if you apply them and then save the file as a 2003 file you may
loose much of the formatting.

But I note that your subject line says it removed fonts, I have no
suggestions for that.
