Excel 2007 Compatibility Mode bugs

I'm running Office 2007 but all files have to be in 2003 format (since they
have to be accessible to other people). I have run into 3 specific issues so
far, and was wondering if anyone else has the same problems (or even a
solution?).

1 - Whenever a file with chart sheets is closed & reopened, the chart areas
on chart sheets shift down & to the right (as if the chart area top & left
properties (0,0) are overridden by the page margins). Result is the chart is
pushed down & to the right, partially off the printable page, and must be
manually dragged back to its proper place on the page.

2 - Text boxes placed on top of chart sheets are not sized properly with the
text inside them (the text box is too small). If the text is actually a
formula referring to a cell on another sheet (we have lots of these, to allow
dynamic commenting of chart output), the textbox does not display the text at
all, until it is manually edited.

3 - Headers & footers outside of the page margins get cut off. In Excel
2003, a footer extending beyond the left & right page margins would still get
printed (up to the printable area margin). In 2007, the footer gets sliced
off exactly at the page margin.

I don't know if these are "bugs" or settings issues, and not sure if I'm
posting in the correct place, but any help or insight would be much
appreciated.

Hi J.,
1 - Whenever a file with chart sheets is closed & reopened, the chart areas
on chart sheets shift down & to the right (as if the chart area top & left
properties (0,0) are overridden by the page margins). Result is the chart is
pushed down & to the right, partially off the printable page, and must be
manually dragged back to its proper place on the page.

Sounds like a bug to me.

A bug again.
3 - Headers & footers outside of the page margins get cut off. In Excel
2003, a footer extending beyond the left & right page margins would still get
printed (up to the printable area margin). In 2007, the footer gets sliced
off exactly at the page margin.

This may be caused by the fact that 2007 handles Headers&footers differently
from earlier versions. I still think this is a bug though.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for confirming what I thought. Is there any hope that these bugs
will be addressed at some point, or is backward compatibility not a high
priority?

Also, is there any place to post what I would consider design flaws (as
opposed to bugs) in 2007? I was forced into "upgrading" to 2007, and it has
been a complete disappointment so far. I don't know if it would make any
difference but if there is anyone at MS who would take note, I have a long
list (which I won't bother you with here).

Thanks again for your response, & best regards.

It is high priority said:

Any updates on this bug. I have the same thing happening. I tried
converting the file to the 2007 format, but due to the size of the
spreadsheet (and yes it has macros), it takes 10-15 minutes to open in
xl2007. The graph shift is the problem that I'm having.
