Excel 2007 acting weird

So I go into My Documents and double click an existing Excel file to open.
Seems quite normal, no? This document opens, as well as a separate file
"Book1". It gets rather annoying, that I've already opened the file I want.
I didn't open Excel (start w/ a blank workbook) then go File>Open. Even
more annoying is that I didn't make any changes to Book1 (at least that I
can see), but it asks when I try to close Excel "Do you want to save?"

I did have Solver installed and enabled. I've since tried disabling, but
that doesn't seem to do anything. Is this normal behavior? If not, how can
I stop it?

This is not an answer...just an additional note.
I have seen this behavior in Excel 2003 as well.

Ken, I'm wondering if this is the same as my issue. I have a sharted excel
workbook for 2007, and instead of opening the workbook on the first listed
worksheet, it seems to have picked a specific worksheet for the default for
opening. I tried it on a different computer and it didn't do that and opened
normally. Is this similar to your issue?
 
I'm not Ken, but unless you do something special, excel will remember where you
were when you last saved the workbook. When you reopen the workbook, it'll take
you back to that location.

One of the special things you can do is have a macro that runs when you open
that workbook. It can select any location/worksheet or range that it wants.

Any chance you have a macro running that does this?

I'll hazard a guess that removing it will stop the 2nd file from opening?
 
Nope... If I open Excel (Start>Programs>Office>Excel), it gives me the
single "Book1" blank workbook. If I simply double click an XLS/XLSX file in
My Documents (or anywhere else), it opens that file, plus a Book1.
 
I have seen this behavior before.
So Ken, is it possible to remove the Book1 from that folder??

What happens when you moved it?

And be sure to look in all your XLStart folders. Depending on your excel
upgrade paths, you may have more than one.
