Excel 2003: Convert Text Character to Number

I have copied a PDF file of statemnet sheet to Excel. When It pasted in excel
they were changed the number to text like below:
"$17.89"
How I can conver them to number without "" mark and doing the calculation on
them.Thanks.

You could perform two find and replace operations to "conver them
to number". In Excel, select the cells that you want to
"conver". Press Ctrl+H, search for $, replace with nothing, and
replace all. Press Ctrl+H again, search for ", replace with
nothing, and replace all.
