excel 2003 and MS XP SP1

Just recently bought a dell 4700 (loaded) I have simple excel worksheets. I
placed a should cut to a folder I use alot on the toolbar. I have at least
four excel sheets open at one time. WhenI click on the shortcut and left
click mouse to open a file it takes a long time or does not open, but when I
open the same file by right clicking it opens extremely quick. I have done
everything to this computer from resource disk new hard drive, highjack
spybot, tweak it, your name it. Please anyone help. Dell is of not help and
tells me it is a software problem not a hardware
 
How about going through Explorer or My Computer and double-clicking on the
file. Does it open up okay then?

Does it open faster if Excel is already open in the background when you
double-click on the file?
