EXCEL 2000: OUT-OF-MEMORY

Ash

Excel 2000 says it is out of memory while opening a
workbook, or copying and pasting from one workbook to another.

The Machine is an AMD 1800XP with Windows XP and 500 MB
RAM... At the times of the errors, I have had task-manager
running and it tells me that the system still has over 200
MB of Hardware RAM still available...

Anyone come accross this, and have a solution that I might try?

Thanks
Ash

It seems that Excel cannot use all of the available memory
on any particular machine. Based on other posts I think
that Excel can only use up to 64 meg of ram, and link to
about 32,000 cells. I guess Microsoft never throught that
anyone would need over that amount. It has become a big
problem for our company, because we create very large
spreadsheets for hydrologic data analysis.

One way to get around it is to put all of your data in one
spreadsheet, using many different tabs, and dont link to
any other spreadsheets. It is not a very organized or
structured way to work, but it gets around Microsoft's
limitations.

I have seen several post and have made one myself
concerning this issue and no one from MS has attempted to
answer. I think we are SOL and the software gaint MS
doesn't give a you know what....

I've got real and important data tied up in a file that I
can't get anyone to suggest to me how to recover it.

Good luck and if you get a solution please let me know and
I'll will pass along anything I get to you also....
