EWF, missing HAL.DLL, and logical partition

To all,

I have a hard drive with two partitions. The first partition boots
XP-Pro. The 2nd partition (logical drive) boots XPe. I had been
successfully booting XPe images from the 2nd partition.

Then I built an image that included the 4 EWF components. That image
made it completely through the FBA, but then failed to boot. If I
remember correctly, it was a "missing hal.dll" message.

Since then, for all XPe image built, I have gotten the "missing
hal.dll" message before the FBA gets started. I even built an image
with all EWF components deleted. But it continues to crash before the
FBA gets started.

I always check boot.ini and verify that the arc path is correct.

Some questions:
1. Why can't I boot XPe images from the 2nd partition anymore? It
worked before I started playing with EWF.
2. How do I recover? Do I have to delete the 2nd partion? Do I need a
2nd hard drive?
3. Can I use EWF on a logical partition?

Thanks,
Ken

In the TD, have you checked the options that allows you to define the boot
locations ?
I had the same error and, silly, I miscount the partitions.

Alternatively, once you have the new OS in the second partition, check the
BOOT.INI in the root of your target.
