Everything going to hell

Alright. I just got my computer 4 days ago, it came with Vista installed and
despite the horror stories I was willing ot give it a chance. But the first
day all my music somehow became "inaccessable" and could no longer be played.
The second day NOTHING could be played, even off a CD in the drive. Now all
of a sudden my sound doesn't work at all. The tablet and pen for grpahic arts
that I installed has wonky sensitivity. AOL Instant Messenger won't start up.
Oh, and when I play a slightly grpahics heavy game (that I had NO problem
with on my much lesser old computer) the Monitor enjoys going blank for a few
seconds. It's all been very fun and now I'm ready to tear my hair out.
A) I don't know what to do. Someone save me. I'm not a computer person and i
can't deal with this.
B)Are these new pre-made computers filled with components ONLY compatible
with Vista? Because I would love to downgrade and have MS give XP to me
because Vista is a nightmare in digital form.

I'm not reflexively jumping to the defense of Microsoft, but it's possible
that the problem is with your computer.

If it's brand new and not working then you should call the computer maker,
as another poster has already suggested.

You have no way of knowing whether this is a Vista problem or a bum machine.
Either way, it's not working.
And four days into your ownership, I'd say that's a problem the computer
manufacturer has to fix.

you should have listened to my warnings about vista

If you came here you may have seen my warnings....

what do the vistaboys have to say now? this is a new vista state of the art
pc,
yet its full of problems....

there is only one explaination: Vista is low quality and stupid.

To the OP... if you want to try to stick with vista give us one problem at a
time
with details so we can try to tame the beasta (vista)

Tiberius: You have jumped to conclusions. Yes, this is a new machine, but
nothing the OP has said gives any evidence this is "state of the art." How
can you possibly know that based on what the OP said?

Maybe it is. We don't know. She didn't say.
Maybe it's something she bought from Wal-Mart. We don't know. She didn't
say.

To TheSarah (original poster): Please tell us more about your machine.
At the same time, though, I'd say that I don't care if it's a $6,000
quad-core. If it's not working four days after you bought it, you need to
talk to the people who sold it to you. Or else return it to them if they
refuse. A product you buy has to work, whether there's a written warranty or
not. If they can't make it work, tell them you want your money back. ALL of
it. No "restocking fees" etc.

I have heard too many people in here say that vista is full of problems and
they want to downgrade to Xp
to buy into "its the computers fault" scenario

I know for sure that vista is a flop... from experience.. bad quality, bad
design, bad concept, bad implementation...

everything about vista is bad.... and to think before I started testing the
betas I thought it would
be a revolution, a milestone, a masterpiece. Then I saw the betas, and said
you gotta be kidding...
then I hoped these betas had nothing to do with the final product.. yet it
didn't change much...

Im still waiting for the "real vista" that was promised to the world....
perhaps it will come out in 2010.

Well, I don't mean to put anyone down; and maybe it's because I use to train
and repair and consult. But, my expirience with vista is going quite well. I
think it is a step up from XP. I don't have the time to explain how to deal
with all the problems I've read about on this board, but, I do try to follow
every problem that you people are having, and I have not read about any
problems that can't be solved. All I can say is quiters never win, so, don't
give up.

It's not the machine, it is the OS. Like the saying "failure is not an
option, it comes bundled with the software". TheSarah guessed it right,
vista sux.

By the way, m$ doesn't have a warranty and they don't give money back.

4 days old ???? Take it back to the place where purchased and have them fix it or exchange it or refund you for it.
There can be a multiple of reasons from computer being faulty to having something installed that is not compatible with the system or having been infected by an install or by surfing.

As Galileo said, "And yet, it moves." Vista works fine for me, and for lots
of other posters to this and other newsgroups.

But let's not fight over Vista for the moment. The point is the OP has a
brand new computer that's not working. She should take it back to the vendor
and let the vendor figure out if it's the computer or if it's Vista.
And she should keep taking it back (or demand all of her money back) until
the vendor gets it to work.
If the vendor comes to the conclusion that Vista is the problem, he should
put XP on there and refund her the difference in the price of XP and the
price of Vista.
The OP should not be deterred by our argument over whether Vista sucks or
not (excuse me, I mean "sux"). You're entitled to your opinion about Vista;
it differs from mine. The point is the OP has bought a computer that doesn't
work. She shouldn't be beating herself over the head trying to decide if she
should try to replace Vista with XP. What if she does that and finds out the
computer still doesn't work? Then she may have voided her warranty by
changing OSes. Or at the very least, she's given the vendor a reason to
blame the computer problems on her for changing the OS.

TheSarah: We still haven't heard back from you. Where'd the computer come
from? Who's the maker or vendor?
Please let us know.

Let's keep it as your personal opinion. I use Vista Home Premium on HP
notebook and it works like a charm.

I bought my first pc in 1999 from Dell with Win98SE pre-installed. It's
still running, in the other room, offline, because '98 is no longer
supported by MS and will not be updated, and therefore, is supposedly
antiquated. I had to replace the hard drive a few years ago and the keyboard
and mouse last year, but otherwise it's still all original hardware.

Nearly two full months on a brand spanking new eMachines with Vista Home
Basic pre-installed and I have experienced the 'unable to empty deleted
folder' Windows Mail glitch *once* and solved it the first time with a tip
from these newsgroups. I'm using it all day long, emptying the deleted
messages as I go, without a recurrence. I had to call tech support once,
because I did something to it myself, trying to install incompatible
hardware when I know better. (wireless mouse and keyboard)

Yes, this is only the 2nd computer I've owned, but I have worked on many
others. Most often, the reasons for problems other people have with pc's
I've fixed are something they caused themselves. (Ever rebuild a system from
f-disk because someone decided AOL free-trial disks should be reinstalled
with new codes every month?)

Not everyone uses their pc the same way, Some abuse the software by trying
to make it do something it can't, then change unrelated settings to try to
fix it. Others might partly upgrade an old machine with mismatched hardware
and then upgrade the OS without the correct drivers.

Just because *you* might know what you're doing, not everyone else does. If
it was an upgraded pc then I'd say check for newer Vista-compliant drivers,
but a new pc acting that way needs to be returned for repair while the
warrantee is still in effect. Any brand new appliance that doesn't work
after less than a week is probably defective. Wouldn't you bring a new DVD
player back to the store if it had no sound?

I've seen machines from just about every manufacturer fail within days of
arrival.
They don't do the burn-in tests at the factory the way they used to...you
wanted them cheaper...that is one of the things they eliminate to control
costs.

I would point out that the Original Poster has never returned to give us
more information on her system.
Until she does, I see no point in "working on" her problem any further.
Right now, we're all shooting blind.
