Every time I try to type a " a random character appears

I've been trying to type in a question mark or quotation marks in Word a
random french letters keep appearing instead. How do I turn this function off?

Check your Windows regional and keyboard settings match your region and
keyboard pattern.
Check the language at the Word cursor is English (double clkick the language
indicator in the Word status bar).
