Every penny a prisoner

Mark Carter

I decided to get some personal business cards printed the other day. I
found a company - VistaPrint - that printed 250 of them for £6.11 (inc.
VAT). They were delivered today, and I thought they were quite good.

Although not free, strictly speaking, I thought that there would be a
fair amount of interest from this newsgroup in what appear to be genuine
bargains to be had over the internet.

A search on the internet turns up many results for the word "bargain" -
but I wasn't convinced about any of them. In an effort to generate
much-needed wholesome kamma, I thought it would be a good idea to try to
generate a list of genuine bargains. I'll kick off with my list
(admittedly small) - and I invite others to add to the list.

Heres' my list so far:

BUSINESS/PERSONAL CARDS
Region: UK/Europe (maybe worldwide)
URL: www.vistaprint.co.uk
Added by: Mark Carter, UK
When: 21-Feb-2004
Details: Prints 250 business/personal cards for £5.20 + VAT. Selection
of colour templates available.
Caveats: Vistaprint puts the message "Business Cards are FREE at
www.vistaprint.co.uk" when you make use of this offer.

LINUX CDs
Region: UK
URL: www.yourlinux.com
Added by: Mark Carter, UK
When: 21-Feb-2004
Details: Supplies Linux CDs at £1.20 + P&P; making them much cheaper
than going out and buying those hideously expensive boxed sets. The site
also has a section "People who bought this were also interested in ...",
which is an interesting way of finding out about products that you might
never have thought of.
Caveats: Some of the CDs may be available as free iso images directly
from the originating site; which may be a consideration for those people
with broadband.

.... there, I told you it was a small list. I'd be interested in hearing
about other people's recommendations. I'm looking for amazing bargains,
not for stuff that's just had a bit of the price shaved off. Feel free
to adapt the template I've used for presenting the entries. I think it
would be useful if the "Caveats" section was kept, though. That way we
can see what the downside of the offer is. Also, only mention stuff that
you thought was personally useful. I once heard about a plastics company
that was giving out free samples of plastic, for instance. That's nice
as far as it goes, but not very functional.

I am not sure where your list belongs but it certainly isn't on a newsgroup
designated for the topic of free computer software.

Mark,
This group is supposed to be for the discussion of freeware, not
"good bargains." Please post this kind of thing to a more appropriate
newsgroup.

"Kamma", eh? I detect a Theravadin.
