every new document i open has a previous document's text

I am having major problems trying to correct this.
somehow my mother has caused this problem and she has no idea how

everytime we open a new blank document it opens with text from another
document written ages ago...i have tried to find the answer to this and it
could be that "templates" are the answer but i cannot work out how she could
of created a template as she only knows the very basics on the pc.
could someone please help me solve this
