You have to set this option for each file type and the route to Folder
options> File types will be slightly different, depending on your OS:

From Windows Explorer> View> Folder options> File types
OR Tools> Folder options> File types
OR Ctrl Panel> Folder options then File Types. Select [file type]> Advanced.
Put a check by "Confirm open after download."
You should then get the "Open or Save" dialog for each download.

hi don thanks for the answer
however, i don't have that problem that you described how to fix. the
problem is that the option under the open /save window that says "Always ask
before opening this type of file" is greyed out. i don't want to be asked
i just want it to open the file when i click on it . and i can't get to that
because it the checkbox is greyed out for that option.

thanks again
