Event Viewer not showing entries

My event viewer on my SBS2000 (all patches/packs) installation has shopped
showing the event log entries. It lists the amount of entries there, but
the list is blank. You can click on the blank page and it highlights, but
doesn't give you the entry and the properties dialog comes up "not found" -
and this is in all the logs.

I have scanned the entire machine for viruses etc and it comes up clean

any suggestions??
