Event Viewer Failure

My system hangs at startup about 25% of the time and I used to be able to
read the Event Viewer to help diagnose the problem. Recently, I am unable to
access the application. When I open one of the modules, I receive a message
stating "unable to complete the operation on system (or security or
application). Interface is unknown."

Start > Run: services.msc
Make sure that the "Event Log" service is running. If this is not the
case, set it for "Automatic" and start that service.
