Event Viewer Problem

Guest

I wanted to check out some difficulties I was having. When I opened the event
viewer and clicked on system, I got an error message which said: "Unable to
complete the operation on "system." The interface is unknown." Does anyone
have any suggestions about how to get the event viewer working properly.
Thanks for your help.

What happens for the other logs?

Same thing for the other logs. I also did a file search and didn't seem to
find any exe file that might operate the event viewer. Len

Start|Run|eventvwr.msc
Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services and check that the Event Log
service is running.

Dear Dave,

You're great! Thanks for the help. I saw that the Event Log Service was
disabled. I set it for automatic, started it, rebooted and now I'm on my way
to solving the bigger problems. But I really appreciate your help. Thanks
again,

Len

I know it's much later in time now from the original posters question, but
I'm having the same problem, and there IS NO event viewer service listed.
Might explain why it won't start. Any ideas how to get it back? Thanks

Sorry for getting in on this late but I also have a problem with the event
service, it will not start, several errors are given; Error 1053, service did
not respond, this error given after the registry
key,HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\ImagePath
has the -k LocalServiceNetworkRestricted removed and with that whole key
intact I get error 4201 WMI data or an Error 1290 with the incompatible
service SID type setting. The login for the service is grayed out so it
cannot be changed. Any Ideas??? Thanks in advance

Sorry Les, but I eventually just reinstalled the whole shebang. Wish I had
better news for you... I'm sure Vista will solve all of your problems. Ha
ha...

After posting here yesterday, that is what I will be doing today anyway, I
don't have a lot of patience any more with some of this stuff. Thanks for the
response.
