Event ID 256

After applying the updates of April 13th (5 Security Patches) my eventlog
reports the following:

Event Source: PlugPlayManager Event ID: 256 Description: Timed out sending
notification of device interface change to window of ""

How to get rid of this event, since there is nothing between the quotes?

Thank's for any comment in advance.

I have the same problem. Up to now I can't solve the issue, but on my system
I found that it has probably to do with a conflict between the KB835732
update and the driver of my soundcard which is a Creative Sound Blaster
PCI128.
In another thread somebody talked also about such a conflict (but it was
with another audio device). He could solve the problem by installing a new
driver. If I find an alternative driver for my SB PCI128, I can do some
further testing.

I do have a PC running W2K also having an PCI128 soundcard. Funny enough I
do not have the problem on this PC. The PC which has a problem is a DELL
optiplex GX1 PIII450. Today I have tried to run a clean install, with no
specific SW (except McAfee7.0). After the update of KB835732 it got the same
"problem". I am curious how to resolve the "problem". Anyhow the PC runs
fine so far.

Can you tell me the version of your PCI128 driver ? If it corresponds to
mine, I know I am off the track.

I think I use the Microsof original one, hereby the details: Creative
AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128 (WDM)
Provider Microsoft, date 18-11-1999, driver version 5.0.2184.1

I have a different version of the Sound Blaster PCI128 : mine is based on
the ES5880 chip instead of the ES1370. This implies also that I have to use
a driver provided by Creative; the one included in win2k from Microsoft is
not accepted.
So, I can stay with my idea that there is an incompatibility between the
KB835732 security update and the driver for the Creative SB PCI128 (ES5880)
soundcard.

Do you have a monitor connected to this PC. I don't (I use it as a virtual
test PC) I will try to connect a monitor tomorrow (as a test)
