Event ID 20169

Have a W2K Pro SP4 client on our W2K/W3K network which has the following
event in the system log...
Event 20169

Source RemoteAccess
Type Warning

Description:

Unable to contact a DHCP server. The Automatic Private IP Address
<Autonet address> will be assigned to dial-in clients. Clients
may be unable to access resources on the network.

Seems to me this is a RRAS event which would normally show up on a RRAS
server. The only remote access type of software installed on this machine is
WinVNC, but I don't think this would generate an event like this.

Does anyone have an idea what might be happening here?

Thanks!

this may help. quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net
Unable to contact a DHCP server - Event ID 20169

Causes: 1. You don't have DHCP server.
2. The RRAS server can't contact to the DHCP.
3. The DHCP is out of the IP
4. The RRAS doesn't assign IP to the VPN client.

That's interesting info. The thing is, though, we don't have RRAS set up
anywhere on our network, and the machine that has the event isn't a VPN
client (other than the WinVNC software). Checked processes, and didn't see
anything unusual.

You must have Incoming Connection enabled on the workstation. W2k Pro can
accept one RAS connection, and works much like RRAS in the server version.
