Event ID 1000

Today, I ran into a weird problem where my Windows 2000 DC was locked up
(CPU utilization was low though), users could not print to network
printers, and I received several of the following Event Viewer error
messages:

Source: Userenv
Event ID: 1000
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Description: Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your
computer network. Return value (2146).

I can't seem to find any information in the MS Knowledgebase about this.
Does anyone know what causes this and how I can fix it?

Thank you.
