Configuration: Windows XP Home Edition
DVD Writer: NEC 3035A

Now the DVD drive is unavailable (marked with a yellow dot in Device List),
marking a problem with the driver.

In event list, the event error is:
"
The start system driver could not be loaded:
Asapi
Cdrom
"

It is translated from the french versuion, sorry for the mistakes.

I tried to uninstall the DVD Drive: same thing.
Many thanks for your help!

In Device Manager, what is the Error Code? This is a number, 1 through 49.

Hi Fred,

Code 39
[[Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Recommended resolution
Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file
that is corrupted; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry
point in another binary file that could not be loaded.

Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall
or upgrade the driver.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the
Troubleshooting Wizard. ]]

A piece of advice...
*Never* get new drivers from Windows Update.

If needed, get new drivers from the manufacturer of your DVD drive. Go to
the manufacturer's website to see if any new drivers are available.
