EULA arguments

K

Kerry Brown

I'm fairly new to the XP groups, been lurking for about a month, posting
(when I actually know the answer) for the last couple of weeks.

Flame retardant suit on -

It's obvious there are many different views regarding the Windows XP EULA.
Why is so much time wasted on here arguing about it? Anyone who has worked
on computers for a while knows that most end users don't care about the
technical details of the EULA. If they can make a copy and they have a
reason to do so they will. Microsoft has come up with various schemes to try
to stop this. We can argue the legality of these schemes all day and get no
where so why not just agree to disagree. I have kill filtered all headers to
do with EULA. I urge others to do the same, or at least resist the urge to
reply to obvious trolls.

Flame retardant suit of.

Please don't start another huge thread with this post. Read and move on.

Thanks,
Kerry Brown

Some people are control freaks and can't resist the urge to play netcop and
start issuing orders. EVERYBODY GET ALONG! DON'T RESPOND TO THIS POST! I
WILL KILLFILE YOU! Who gives a sh*t what you think? And by the way, you
either slept through first grade or the sentence "Flame retardant suit of"
is missing a noun.

You can't always get what you want.

As for the EULA controversies, when people ask questions about it, and
get only MicroSpeak answers, people don't get a full picture.

It would be like IBM only getting SCO interpretation of the UNIX
license.

People deserve to hear all sides on the matter before coming to their
own conclusion, but there are many here that think that ONLY the MS
point of view is valid, and don't accept that people can decide to have
an opinion that is contrary to MS's, and they will use FUD, and lies to
try to scare people into believing that MS's word is the law, and all
sorts of doom and gloom awaits those that think any other way.

If you don't like reading the EULA Wars, then don't, but as long as MS
and its sycophants use deception, FUD, and outright lies to support the
EULA is the Law BS, I can guarantee you, that the War will continue.

Don't start another huge thread? Yeah, right.

And what forum would you prefer people use to "argue" about their
interpretations of the EULA? To me, this seems like the perfect place to do
it.

Oh, yeah, and if you use filters for all postings using "EULA", are you then
not able to read your own posting? Am I the only one catching the irony
here?

Should have that song stuck in my head for a while.

Should have that song stuck in my head for a while.

When I worked as a movie projectionist many moons ago, I'd always get
someone complaining about the rock music I played between movies, so I
kept a copy of that song handy, just for such occasions.

If they kept complaining after that, I'd play "Foward March" by Pat
Methany. It's a song that sounds like a marching band on a bad trip,
that almost has the effect of fingernails on a chalkboard.

I'm a dolt? The OP misspelled "off" (hence the "slept through first
grade" comment). The OP posted a d!ckish message and I responded in kind.

Which irony, the one about not starting another huge EULA thread while
he's actually the one starting it, the one about not discussing the
WinXP EULA here in a WinXP general discussion newsgroup, or the one
about him filtering his own post?

Personally, I rather enjoy these threads. It's fun to watch people make
fools of themselves.

Now Carey that's not nice, go to your cave! =o) Thing is, Kurt has some very
valid points. MS is always beating into our heads to support the EULA, and in
business that's what I do. But when software costs so bloody much, why can't
two or three PCs in the same house use one license? They're not selling it,
the only profit they make is saving a few bucks to get the usability of the
software. There is a reason that people refer to us, (Those that must spew
forth "Micro-speak" in performance of our jobs), as computer nazis. The EULA
is the biggest reason.
Let's face it, until MS backs off, or software is all open-source, this
silly war will continue. Trolls or no trolls.

Excellent post, Kerry. Good points.

I don't think it was an excellent post. Seemed a bit fascist to
me. I'd say the MS EULA was a legitimate topic of discussion, in a
general Windows XP group.
