Ethernet not OK on P4G8X Deluxe ?

Hello everybody,

My P4G8X Deluxe MB with 1 GB RAM, running under WIndows XP Professionnel,
contains a Broadcom BCM7502 NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet controller, and I
have also installed a PCI card (3Com Etherlink XL 10/100) which gives me a
second Ethernet connector.

For my highspeed ADSL Internet connection, the ADSL "modem" connects to the
3Com Ethernet connector, and this works just fine.

The problem is that if I connect theADSL "modem" to the on-board Broadcom
connector its impossible to establish an Internet connection.

Both adaptors have the correct drivers installed.

Could you suggest any explication ?

Thanks a lot
Steen

Each card has its own unique mac address. First do a release from the one
connected to the modem then connect to the other card and renew the
connection. Some ISP's log in your mac address so that someone else cannot
use your connection.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your answer, Homer. In fact - as far as I understand - my ISP
checks on an identification code which is embedded in the ADSL modem.
Anyway, I sometimes use this same modem on my notebook (Gateway Solo 9500)
without any problem.

But I would like to try what you suggest, if you could explain me exactely
what to do. What do you mean wirh "release" ?

If you are on Win XP, open a dos command prompt, (Start, All Programs,
Accessories, Command Prompt), then type in ipconfig /? to see a list of
options, release is one of them. In Win 98 I think it's Start, Run,
winipconfig.

Thank you, LeeBos, for your assistance. Unfortunately, releasing did not
change anything.

Do you remember that, almost one year ago, we had a lot of discussions about
the P4G8X Deluxe ?

Well, I just released as you told me, but that did non change anything. When
I use the Broadcom Ethernet, Internet Explorer is unable to open a WEB page
such as www.google.com. But what seems very strange is the fact, that a ping
on www.google.com works ! What do you think about that ?

Hi Steen, yes I do.
The Broadcom in my P4G8X works fine, but I'm going thru a broadband router
before the cable modem. If I connect directly to the cable modem I must power
cycle the cable modem each time I change PC's otherwise my ISP remembers the
mac address and will not talk to me. Might this work with your DSL?

Hi Lee, I just tried to connect the ADSL modem to the Broadcom connector,
and reinitialized the modem (with a power off/power on). This did not change
anything : there is still no Internet connection. Well, this is not that
important, since I can still use the 3Com, but I would like to understand
what happens.
