Escaping a Suspended Install of Framework 1.1

I tried installing Framework 1.1 on a computer with Windows 2000. When the
install program reports "Registering System.EnterpriseServices.dll", it
hangs. I have to do a cold boot to restart the computer.

Apparently, I now have a "suspended" install which 1) has corrupted the
behavior of some programs, like Microsoft Office; and 2) prevents me from
running the Setup for other programs. I can't complete this suspended
install, and I can't roll it back.

Can anyone recommend a solution to this problem? I need to escape from the
install somehow, so I can repair Office and get back to work. In browsing
this newsgroup, I see that many people have had difficulty installing
Framework 1.1, but I see no advice relevant to my specific situation.

Please disregard this thread. I've come to understand the problem better and
I made another, more appropriate, post (see "Failure Registering
System.EnterpriseServices.dll").
