Error - Windows Cannot Connect

H

Harrison Midkiff

Hello:

Just recently I have been getting reports that users cannot print in my
remote offices. Each remote offices has a DC which is doing DHCP, DNS and
is there print and file server. Lately I have been getting reports users
cannot print. If I look on the server I can see print jobs in the queue
just sitting there. When they report the issue and I log into the server I
can not UNC to the path of other servers in the domain. Example:
\\SERVER_NAME. The event viewer shows a series of events all with the
source of "Userenv" and ID of "1000". The first event is below. In the
coarse of troubleshooting this I have discovered if I stop the BackupExec
services name resolution then starts to work again, but only for a while. I
have not been able to find a whole lot on google. I opened a case with
BackupExec but they say they have never heard of this issue.

This issue is happening once or twice a day to my remote DC's. Does anyone
have any ideas what might be happening?

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 8/31/2006
Time: 2:03:35 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: COLDC1
Description:
Windows cannot connect to AVIINC.LOCAL with (0x2747).

Hi Harrison,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

From your post, please help us confirm if you can connect to other servers
after you stop the BackupExec service. Is it just for a while and the issue
reoccurs?

For the current situation, I am not sure if the issue is related to the
third party program. I suggest you first remove it and monitor the issue
for some time to see if the issue reoccurs.

In addition, I also notice all print jobs are in the queue. I am not sure
if the network traffic is blocked by the jobs. Please go to print server
and manually remove all print jobs and then test the issue again.

Meanwhile, I also suggest you run some antivirus and antispyware programs
to clean up any viruses and spyware from the systems.

For more information about this event error, you My refer to the following
link:
Event ID: 1000
<http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1000&eventno=828&source=Userenv&
phase=1>

As the link mentioned, the error code 0x2747 means: An operation on a
socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient Buffer
space or because a queue was full. For more information, please refer to:
196271: When you try to connect from TCP ports greater than 5000 you
receive the error 'WSAENOBUFS (10055)'

Ken:

Thanks for replying to my post.

Since the app is BackupExec which is my backup program I really can't shut
it down. The article you reference on eventid.net I have already looked at.
I really don't like rebooting servers. But due to not really having any
resolution for this I rebooted 2 of the effected servers last night. This
morning I decided to all the reg value the article listed. I am going to
watch it again very close today. If the problem occurs again I will add the
value first.

I will let you know what happens. Thanks again for replying to my post.

I rebooted all my domain controllers thinking BackupExec had caused some
kind of TCP over flow but the problem persists. Any other ideas?

Hi Harrison,

Have you uninstalled the BackupExec related software to monitor the issue?
Does the issue still occur?

Please make sure if you have configured the DNS server properly. When the
issue occurs, can you use IPCONFIG /ALL command to verify if all IP
addresses have been obtained successfully?

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao
