Error While Reconnecting

C

Chris

Hi all

M: mapped to \\PCS03\folder.

If I don't access M: for some period of time, for example
3 hours, and then try to access M:, I get the following
error message:

"An error has occured while reconnecting M: to \\PCS03
\folder Microsoft Windows Network: The local drive name
is already in use. This connection has not been
restored."

My remedy for this is to reboot PCS03 and then reboot my
workstation (order seems to be important). Is there a
better way to overcome this?

Thanks in advance

Chris

In Device Manager, check the NIC on PCS03. Disable power management on it's
Properties dialog. Also, make sure that PCS03 isn't simply hibernating.
But we need more details about your network configuration, operating
systems, etc. Also, it would be helpful to know if anything is showing up
in any of the Event Logs on the machines.

Okay,

I am not an IT specialist by training but I have become
one for my organization. Forgive me if I don't get all
the terminology correct.

I had a similar problem not so long ago and for us it was
a simple as going into Network Connections then going to
the properties of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). We had
the DNS Server allocated to an address and after we
changed it to Obtain DNS Server address Automatically.
This fixed our problem.

Hope that helps.

Hey thnks for that. I don't know what could be relevant
beyond what I mentioned. I have disabled power mgnt on
the NIC. I'll double check the event logs

Thanks again.
