Error while archiving folder in Outlook 2000

I have a user that keeps getting the following message when auto-archiving
the folders Drafts, Inbox, and Calendar:

Error while archiving folder “Inbox†in store “mailbox nameâ€. Some items
could not be copied. They where either moved or deleted, or access is denied

His other folders archive just fine. He uses Outlook 2000 on an Exchange
Server. Though both his archive and outlook folder are very large, he has
not gone over the folder size limit set on Exchange.

I have already tried setting up a second archive folder, but I still receive
the same error. Because these archive folders reside on our file server, I
have also tried adding a second archive folder on his local PC - same result.

I do have the option of upgrading him to Office XP, but was wondering before
I do whether anyone has encountered this problem before.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Could his archive file be corrupted? Try running the repair tool against it,
scanpst.exe (do a search for it).

Thanks for the responses!

Also doublecheck the size of his archive file, if it's more than 1.5 Gb it
could get flakey and if it's larger than 2 GB that would cause problems.

I thought that might be the case, too. That is why I closed the large
archive folder, and set up the auto-archive so that it pointed to a new,
second folder. I tried putting this second folder on both the file server
and his local PC. However, I kept getting the same error. I would think,
even if the original archive folder is too large or corrupted, that creating
a second archive folder would be the solution. But it proved to not be the
case. Am I wrong in my thinking?
