Error when opening Internet Explorer

When opening internet explorer, the following message
immediately pops up:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
abnormal program termination

When I click OK, it closes the window. I have searched
Microsoft support and google and have been unsuccessful
thus far in solving this issue. I am running Windows XP
Pro on a Toshiba laptop. All windows and critical
updates are done. Any ideas?

I had the same problem when accessing a secure site
(https:). Turned out it was spyware causing the problem.
I ran Spybot Search and Destroy - with the latest updates -
and it got rid of the trouble. You can download Spybot
S&D v1.2 free. Do a google search for it. Make sure you
update it with the latest files - the solution was in that
latest batch. Hope this helps.
