Error when opening Hard Drive through My Computer

S

Sergio

When I double-click on C: in the My Computer section, an
error message comes up stating:

"Please go to the Control Panel to install and configure
system components."

I have also noticed that the C: drive has lost its icon.

However, when i type in C: in the address bar, it works,
so its not a problem with the hard drive.

Does anyone know what to do?

Thanks.

Sergio,

In the C:\ root directory, look for a file named Autorun.inf. If present,
delete it.

Thanks! I did find the file, and deleted it, but even
after restarting the same error happens, and the C: drive
doesn't open. :(

Is there anything else i can do?

Did you see if the file is recreated.?

Click Start | Run | CMD.
Type "Dir /a >1.txt"
Post the contents of 1.txt here.

The list seems to be OK. What option you see while right-clking the C:
drive. Also, does it happen to all drives?

It seems that a program I was using tried to use my Hard Drive as a cd drive... I uninstalled it, restarted, and everything works perfect now

Thanks for your help anyway :)

Thanks for the feedback. Were you using Virtual CD or another similar
software?

Yes, in a way, I installed Counterstrike and the program that is used to find servers (Steam) had my C: drive emulate the CD, and copied all its files there...
