System

Windows XP Home edition Service pack 2. Version 2002.
Intel Pentium D CPU 3.40 GHz 2.38 GHz, 1.00 Gb Ram.
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
DvD rewriter LiteOn DVDRW DRW-62160P

It is a new pc that i recently bought a few weeks ago.

To my knowledge only 3 discs have worked correctly and installed. RF Online ( online mmo rpg game), Windows XP and Civilisation: call to power.

I have tried to install Civilisation 4 and Battlefield 2 which give the error ' Not a valid win32 Application', The load up screen wouldnt even come up or autoplay. This was also the same error message for Battlefield 2.

EDIT - Forgot to add, when trying to open setup on civilisation 4 the error ' Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemorty request was completed' appears and is if i click setup again ' Not a Valid Win32 Aplication' error message appears.

I tried installing civilisation 3 and this actually loaded but failed to install with the following errors ' Fail to open DSETUP.DLL' I press ok on the window box and this then appears ' Error Number : 0x80040702 Description : Failed to load dll.DSETUP Setup will now terminate'.

I have searched the internet for Drivers/Firmware for my model of DVD rewriter but i couldnt find anything. But i dont think this is the problem because other discs actually do work.

Please can anyone help me by making any suggestions or solving my problem?
Thanks for any future reply.

I dont have any music CDs to test to see if they work. But Battlefield 2, Civilisation 3 and 4 will not work and i get the errors that i wrote above every time. But i just put a DVD 'War of the Worlds' and that worked fine and played in windows media.

There are at least 3 possibilities here ...

1. your DVD drive is kaput and needs replacing ... some DVD/RWs have two heads, while one may work the other may not.
2. A similar problem ... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q315589
3. May even be ... http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=891894

What 'burner' software is installed ... it has done strange things in the past. ;)

oh, and the list goes on ... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/218617/

good luck!
