Hello,

I am trying to fix my new vista Computer. in the internet explorer I
try to open a link which is supposed to show me a .doc file.
unfortunately when i click the link the down load box opens and the
file down loads. Before I can view it however, I get an alert from
microsoft works which reads:

Works cannot open
"C:\users\LAINE\appData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\98KOR9X0\file1.doc". The file may be in use by
another application, the file may not be supported by any of the
installed converters, or the file may be corrupt.

When I right click on the link and "save target as" the file saves to
my desk top and I am able to then open with the program. Why can I
not open the file throuigh the temp internet fioles or what program is
causing this? As far as I know no other programs are running which
could cause this. Please help before I throw away this Piece of
Vista and switch back to XP.

Well, you found the workaround. Maybe there is something wrong with your
installation of Word - namely the IE integration, where Word is displayed
within IE. Try looking at the Options in Word and/or reinstalling it.
