Error trying to detect and repair Office

I tried posting this to microsoft.public.office but have had no reply.

After noticing that I couldn't get the Research option under Tools in
Outlook, I tried to Detect and Repair MS Office 2003. I inserted the Office
disk as requested but I kept getting:
Error 1311, Source File not found. Verify that file exists and you can
access it.
D:\ZF561407.CAB
Tried searching and Microsoft
http://support.Microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;818234&spid=2488&sid=492 gives a
workaround: Create Administrative Installation Point. However, this seems to
refer to a networked installation and I have one computer.
Looked CAIP up but am no wiser.
I can't understand why it is looking for something on the disk that was
obviously not there when Office was first installed
Is there an idiot's guide or alternative fix for this?
Or should I try a complete uninstall/reinstall? Trouble is, if I get the
same error doing that, I'm really up the creek.

That error means that the location from where Office installed from is
different then where the install files are now located. Confusing, no ?

I get something similar to this with Nero ProductSetup. It seems that when
you run the Nero installer it opens all its CAB files into a collection of
folders all of which branch off from the current user's temp directory.

I've been emptying my temp directories for quite some time - and I'm glad I
did because a while ago I found evidence of a trojan or backdoor that
failed to start because it was looking for something in a temp directory
that was no longer there.

Once the temp folders are emptied, Nero ProductSetup starts complaining
about not being able to find the installation files.

Nice. So cleaning up Temp to prevent malware infestation is an issue
with Nero, too ? When will programmers learn NOT to leave needed files
in a folder that's named TEMP !!!

It gets better. After some trial and error I discovered that the only way
to make things work on subsequent uses of Nero ProductSetup was to *MOVE*
the temp folders created by the install to a new location, and then *MOVE*
them back to TEMP when needed.

I tried copying files, thinking that the original set of installation files
would be sufficient. Not so. Apparently ProductSetup does something with
the files/folders such that they are updated in some fashion. The first
time after stashing the files was okay, but thinking that I was safe with
the backup set, I let the Temp folders be emptied. The next time I ran
ProductSetup after copying back the install files, ProductSetup again
complained about not finding the installation files.

Seems the date/time stamp on the folders is tracked by ProductSetup as
well.

Yuck. And I here I'd thought that only the Office Viewers needed to have
the installation files present in order to apply Security updates to
said Viewers (Word, Excel)
Which version of Nero is this ?
