I think I've read that at least one of the beta versions of IE8 causes
problems in Windows Mail, and that IE8 isn't out of beta test yet.

The only way to find out is to roll back to IE7.
I had the IE8 beta on my machine only a few days when I decided it
was way too buggy, and I uninstalled it.

That's likeky to mean that you don't already have the database files in the
directory you select as the new location, so the new location offers no help
in finding them.

I wish to change my mail program because I have had this and several other
problems with Windows Mail. A Dell tech support person recommended
Incredimail because it is free and good. Another tech support person
recommended Thunderbird, also free. Purchasing Outlook for $100 is a 3rd
option. Which do you reccommend and why?

I recommend you give Windows Live Mail a try first. Unlike the other
choices, it will automatically import your Windows Mail accounts,
settings, and emails.

Many people like Thunderbird, and it has quite a few third party
add-ons available. It has a few quirks that some find unsettling. Also,
you'll be starting from scratch.

IncrediMail emphasizes style over substance. Folks that are heavily into
colored backgrounds, animated icons, etc., seem to like it.

Outlook is a heavy duty business app. It will take some getting used to,
but it is very reliable.

I am having the same problem only i changed the path location and it still
wont work he error now says "windows mail could not be started. the
application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your windows
mail mailbox data is currently being used by another program, such as a virus
scanner. Close the program or wait for it to complete its operations, then
open Windows Mail again (0x800C0155)" then if i click on it comes up with
"Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized"

I have changed and upgraded my windows to Windows Live Mail it seems to be
working.
I just have to wait to see if it works the same as the Windows.

Thanks for reporting back. I think you'll find that Windows Live Mail works
better in many respects than Windows Mail.
