Error - Specified Domain Either Does Not Exist or Could Not Be Contacted..

Dan

When setting up Windows 2000 PCs in our second subnet I get strange
results. When I add the PC to the domain, it works ok. After joining
the domain I attempt to grant a user administrative rights to the PC
and get this error,

Processing of object username failed with the following error. The
specified domain either does not exist or cannot be contacted.

According to the domain controller the PC is part of the domain. If I
take the PC to the building where the domain controller resides I can
execute the same function, no problem. I do believe it's an issue
with DNS or WINS, but have yet to verify. Any insight?

Thanks / Dan

Dan,

Are you using DHCP for the second subnet? One issue could be that the DHCP
server is giving out a different IP for the DNS server. Run "Ipconfig
/all" and confirm that it is pointing to the internal DNS server. If not
change the DHCP options or specify the correct DNS server in the TCP/IP
properties of the clients.
