Error Service Control Manager Event ID 7026

Hi:

I previously had Lavasoft Ad-aware installed and recently uninstalled it.
Now when I open Event Viewer System I am getting an Error Notice applicable
Service Control Manager Event ID 7026. This says" The following Boot-start
or System-start driver failed to open: Lbd"

I have researched and found this to be a Lavasoft driver that apparently
still remains on my computer. This problem has been posted on Lavasoft's
Forum, but apparently no one has an answer on how to find and remove this
driver Lbd.

I am hoping that someone with experience in this area can help me. I know
it's a problem caused by a Lavasoft application, but again I am hoping
someone with enough Windows Experience in removing drivers can help me.

Running Sony desktop VGC-RA716G with Windows MCE(2005) SP3 and all updates
including IE8.

Thanks,

ColTom2

Hi:

As always as soon as you post a question you normally find the answer
shortly thereafter. So it was in this case, as I spent too much time
Googling looking for someone else's answer and not enough time myself
working on a solution.

Anyway here is the solution that so many that have uninstalled Lavasoft's
Ad-aware and ended up with this same problem.

I ran Autoruns for Windows
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx and screened
it closely and found the culprit. It was listed under
HKLM\System|CurrentControlSet\Services and I unticked "Lbd" Ad-aware
Mini-Filter Driver. Rebooted and the problem was gone.

However, to be sure I deleted all aspects of the Lavasoft Lbd Driver I ran
Regedit> HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and deleted the "Lbd" entry.
Now it is entirely gone and no longer appears in Autoruns.

As old as this post is, I figured I'd add something I just stumbled across, to help anybody else looking into this. After resorting to everything ColTom2 did that eliminated the error, I found that there is still an unused driver in my device manager named lbd. This is a little info I found about removing hidden drivers.

1. Go to Start/Control Panel/System.
2. Select the Advanced tab and click the Environment Variables button.
3. Click the New button below the System Variables panel.
4. In the New System Variable dialog box, type devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices in the Variable Name text box and 1 in the Variable Value text box.
5. Click OK to return to the Environmental Variables box, again to go to System Properties dialog box and then click OK again to exit.
6. Repeat step #1.
7. Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button.
7. In Device Manager, go to View | Show Hidden Devices.
8. Now, as you expand the different drivers and devices in device manager you will see not only the items that Windows currently detects as installed on your pc (these are the usual items displayed), but you will also see drivers, devices, and services which have been loaded in the past but were not uninstalled or are not currently started. You can find your offending device, right-click, and choose ?uninstall? to remove it from the system completely. Be careful though; you should note that non-loaded devices, drivers, and services are ?grayed? out, but that doesn?t necessarily mean that you should delete all of them. Only remove items you know you don?t need. And, be careful that you don?t change too many devices or you might need to re-activate your Windows installation.
9. Go back to the Advanced tab of the Systems Properties box, highlight the entry that you just created and hit the Delete button if you want the Device Manager to appear the way it did previously.

I hope this helps somebody as it did for me.
