CD authoring programs use the ASPI layer,EG Nero's incd app have you
miss - uninstalled one ?, run msconfig to see if there is an entry in
the startup tab, if so, uncheck it.
You may have to reinstall the program [if you did uninstall one] then
uninstall it correctly [via add remove]
Also running Adaptec's ASPI check may help resolve the issue, get it and
a wealth of info from Bart's site.

Thank you for the answer.

1) I do not see by msconfig any ASPI element. on 'startup' what string
should I look for ??
(I do see: shstat, updaterui, tbmon, gsicon, dslagent, hpztsb05,
ndvdcontrol, fdm and "adobe reader")
2) I do see with msconfig on 'services' a ASP.NET state service. could that
be the one ??
3) Running the "aspi_you to see if aspi manager is working came with the
answer: WNASPI32 failed "the specified module could not be found"

ASPI won't likely be mentioned directly in msconfig, as I mentioned in
my original post, ASPI is a layer used by CD authoring SW, have you
unistalled something like Nero ?.
