error saving presentation with modify password set

Whenever I set a modify password on a powerpoint presentation (about 350 mb),
when I try to save it, I get an error and it will not save password
protected. I cannot find anything on the microsoft web site that addresses
this. Anybody have any ideas? I'm using powerpoint 2003 and 2002.

John, thank you so much for your rapid response. I have not disabled new
features--the box is clear. What I did try was dividing the presentation
into five different presentations and then saving them all to packaged CD
presentation. That allows me to password protect them from being altered or
parts copied out of them, which is what I wanted. I don't understand why
Microsoft doesn't let you know about this limitation.
By the way, I find that viewing the presentation with the powerpoint viewer
2003 or with powerpoint viewer 97, even if you copy the files to hard drive,
results in various slide changes being somewhat out of synch with the
narration. Do you have any thoughts about that?

Thanks,
