Error publishing with FP2000 after some O/S security packs installation

Hi,

I have recently installed some xp security packs from MS site. Now I can't
publish - its stack in the middle. I got recommendation here to follow the
directions at the following URL's but nothing helps.

http://www.interlacken.com/winnt/tips/tipshow.aspx?tip=24

Some more details:

1. If I reboot with Win2000 (which I have on another disk) then it works
fine.
2. If I delete some images, which have no hyperlink to them from any other
page, my publishing from the XP also works fine.
3. Using "Recalculate Hyperlinks" won't help.

I believe there should be some parameter (which permits this unpointed
images) to solve this problem. Can someone help?

Thanks

Mark

Howdy.

Unreferenced ("orphan") images are almost certainly not
the problem. More likely, it's an issue of too many bytes
to transfer and not enough bandwidth, so something times
out.

How much data are you trying to transfer?

How much less is there when you omit the orphan images?

How are you connecting to the Internet? Dial-up modem?
DSL? Cable modem?

Thanks Jim,

Though I'm not a great expert in FP, I'm not sure that you are right in this
matter.

Some more details that I forgot to note:
1. It happens even when I publish from local disk to local disk.
2. It works fine with the same Internet line with a second O/S and the same
local web site.

Following is my answers to your questions

Thanks
Mark

Go here:
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
And download and run TCP Optimizer and set the optimum settings for your DSL
configuration.

It will need to reboot when it's done so close all programs before you run it.

Ah, now, the fact that publishing fails from one disk-based location
to another, both on the local system, that's freaky. I wish I'd know
that.

OK, this has nothing to do with bandwidth or file size or your TCP/IP
stack.

The time correlation with Windows security patches isn't definitive,
but it's still troubling. Are you logged in as a local admin?

Otherwise, I wonder of one of those orphan picture files might be
corrupt. FrontPage looks inside picture files to get their pixel size
and other properties, and if you have a corrupt file, that *might*
cause a problem.

It's kind of surprising that the same problem didn't show up when you
added the corrupt picture (if there is one) to the first Web, but
that's all that comes to mind.

For starters, I'd browse the folder that contains the oprhan files in
Windows Explorer Thumbnail view. If one of the thumbnails is
incomplete, that'll probably be the culprit. Otherwise, you may need
to open each file in a picture editor and look at its properties.
