Error Ox80072EE2 on Windows Update

O

OLIM

When trying to Update Windows, it checked the computer I
was on, not this one, (the computer had recently been
clean installed with Windows XP & SP2, with a Wireless
1Gb Broadband), but then comes up with the following
message: "Windows update has encountered an error &
cannot display the requested page" with the error code:
Ox80072EE2, have gone onto the help for this code, which
tells me to add http &
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com etc onto the
firewall, but the Windows XP SP2 Firewall does not accept
these, only program files, have corrected the IE -
Options - Security - trusted sites ok. but still same
problem? Have even tried their online email, but the
white refresh screen appeared, so could not send. Any
help would be appreciated.

If you have Norton Internet Security or something similar installed (e.g. some 3rd
party firewall as mentioned in the article above), you might need to reconfigure or
disable it.

Here is how I was able to work around the problem.
Using command prompt
1. proxycfg -d (to clear proxy cache)
2. net stop wuauserv (to stop Automatic updates service)

Using Windows Explorer
3. Delete all files and folders in
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution (your windows folder may vary)

Again using command prompt
4. net start wuauserv (to start Automatic updates service)

Try now going back to Windows Update web page.

It worked for me. YMMV
