I'm a bit vague about all this and whether this is the right place to
ask but....a while ago something happened such that now the hard drive
needs to check itself for consistency during each start up and always
fails after 32% citing an 'error reading folder'.

Everything still seems to work ok and I don't seem to have lost anything
but it takes an age to do this check which always fails in the same place.

Is this serious?
Can I fix it?
How?

Thanks in anticipation

Eric

You may have a problem on your hard disk. See what your
Event Viewer says. I also recommend that you download
and run the free diagnostic program that the manufacturer
of your hard disk makes available on his home site.

Thanks for that however I'm none the wiser.
It passes the normal diagnostics but fails the advanced test on the IDE
but doesn't say why.
Keep everything well backed up and carry on I reckon:-)
