I recently took my laptop to work & logged in to our network there. No
problems with anything, could check mail, surf the net, etc. However, now
that my laptop is back home I can send but not receive mail. I think the
problem is that my Vista laptop was plugged in to an XP network. Can anyone
help please? Below is the error message. Thanks a lot!!

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'pop.att.yahoo.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Your connection to an XP network was an unrelated coincidence.
That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If no improvement, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail,
because it is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly
intrusive antivirus programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Thanks, Gary.
I am running Windows Live One Care for AV protection. On your advice I
uninstalled it, rebooted, tried Windows Mail again, but still got the same
error message.
Also I found out that a friend is having Windows Mail problems on her home
network. The rest of her family's computers are XP (no mail problems with
OE) but their new laptop (Vista, Windows Mail) is experiencing the same
problem as mine. My ISP is AT&T/Yahoo DSL, hers is Suddenlink (cable). If
her techie fiance figures out a solution I will post it here.

You're very welcome. Thanks for reporting back.
One thing you might try (on the theory that the account is corrupted):
Delete that account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate the account.

Ah, I tried that too. Also tried taking the laptop back to work & plugging
in to the network but still could not receive mail. Ack!!
So tonight I activated Outlook 2007 (I have Outlook at work; figured it
would be good to know more than one e-mail program & therefore wanted to use
Windows Mail at home) & guess what, I can receive mail just fine, with AV
protection on.
Evidently Windows Mail became corrupted somehow?? This is quite a mystery.
Will let you know if there are any other developments.
Thanks again for your efforts.
