Go to tools>accounts>select your account>properties>advanced tab, and change
the SMTP outgoing port number to 25>apply/OK.

Using port 0 usually means you have interference from antivirus
programs. What if any antivirus programs do you have?

The talktalk.net instructions for setting up to use their email servers
are at:

<http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/...ct=BROADBAND&catSelect=E-mail&showFAQ=PCOUTEX>

They don't seem to have written instructions for Windows Mail yet,
so use their instructions for Outlook Express but under Windows
Mail instead.

For disappearing messages, go to view menu>current view>select top and
bottom options only.

Your Anti-Virus program, (Norton or McAfee) is the probable cause of all
your problems?

Not according to the error message that you posted, " Protocol: SMTP, Port:
0," Please ensure that you do not have two of the same accounts setup?

Some error messages mistakenly report port 0 because the failure occurred
before WinMail looked up the port number.

Port 25 and SSL are seldom used together, so try this: Click on Tools, then
Accounts, then your email account, then Properties, then Advanced.
Look under Outgoing mail (SMTP):. If there is a check mark in the box
before This server requires a secure connection (SSL), click on this box
and then Apply. Click on OK and then Close.

Thank you, it worked. Thought I was going mad, but still unsure as to why it
happened in the first place.Had no problems at all untill last few days.
Once again THANK YOU

You're welcome. As to why it occured, it may be interference from
your antivirus program. Most of those from Norton or McAfee, or a
recent one from Trend, tend to cause various problems in Windows
Mail, although seldom immediately.

I do not have any of the antivirus programmes you said but I do have AVG FREE
which I must admit I have never had problems with before but I will keep this
in mind.
Thanks.
