Error in Windows Mail when trying to send and receive

Occasionally, I am receiving the following 2 errors when hitting send and
receive in Mail on Vista:

An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800C0148

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'Comcast Email', Server:
'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800C0148

Note that this is not happening on my old PC running OE6 on XP and the
settings are exactly the same.

This is a response to my own post. I un-installed McAfee and installed AVG.
It works fine. What a fun day with Mail :-(

The SMTP port 0 would be the first thing to look at. Check the post to see
what the account properties are, it should probably be port 25 but
definitely not 0.

Using any AV or anti-spyware or anti-spamware software? If so, turn off the
scanning.

Thanks for proving once again that much of WinMail's problems
are antivirus related.

AVG is a brand name for an Anti Virus program. Disable your incoming and outgoing email scanning. Your resident Anti Virus will still be protecting you

Thanks Peter for the clarification on AVG. I will also try your suggestion
of disabling my incoming and outgoing email scanning! I still have an e-mail
in my Outbox that won't go away, so I just had to hide it! Kattylady
