Jim

When I install XP Pro onto my computer as an upgrade, i
get the ERROR MESSAGE: 556FF58h.

I have also tried installing XP Pro as a fresh install
but has trouble writing files after it checks the HDD, &
shows a prompt to retry & just cant get past it. Windows
98SE installs ok.

PC details: K62 450, 128Mb (8Mb shared AGP VGA, 10Gig HDD.

(I have updated my bios to the year 2000, from what was
1995)

Can you tell me what the error code means?

Thanks heaps !! :-)

Jim.

THANKS FOR THE HELP.... :-)

I HAD SEEN THAT THREAD B4, BUT FOUND IT WEIRD THAT WHEN I
EXTRACT FILES FROM A ZIPPED FILE (IN WIN98SE) IT CLAIMS
THAT ALL FILES COULDN'T BE EXTRACTED DUE TO SOME OF THEM
BEING CORRUPT. I TRIED THE SAME DISC IN ANOTHER MACHINE &
IT WORKED WITHOUT A HITCH, I THOUGHT MAYBE THIS WAS ALL
TIED IN & PART OF THE SAME PROBLEM... ANY IDEAS?
