Please select and copy/paste the exact error message, this eliminates typing
errors.

See the following site for the correct settings, it describes OE, but M
settings are the same.

i have tried this several times and i am still getting the error message of
not connecting to server as i stated earlier.

Before you installed McAfee was there ever an antivirus program on
that computer? Most new computers come with a trial version of
either McAfee or Norton antivirus.

If you need a quick fix, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Sorry, but you have tried what exactly?

Remember that we are not looking over your shoulder!

Please provide some comprehensible information.

what i tried was going to tools and selecting accounts and deleting the old
email account and setting up a new one. this did not fix the problem.

If you are getting "cannot connect to server" then that's usually one of two
things: either the mail server is down, or you have input incorrect details
in the mail account setup. Check your ISPs status page to make sure
everything is OK there, then METICULOUSLY check the information you have
entered, from your ISPs mail setup page...

We really do need you to copy & paste the exact error message, not typed out
by you.

Select the error, then right click on it, and choose copy, then right click
in your reply here and paste in all the errors that you get.

Are you connecting to windstream when you get the errors, or are you using a
different ISP now?

In your email properties, when entering id name you must include your
name@your email server....

-- The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.windstream.net',
Server: 'pop.windstream.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

i can receive email through windstream webmail. just cannot do anything
through windows mail vista

That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:
