when I try to start win xp I receive the message "system
is shutting down.this is being done by NT authority/system
the remote call procedure failed.
What is causing this.

Your system is infected with the Blaster Worm.

When you see the message, click Start > Run and type in
shutdown -a
That will abort the shutdown.
