Because XP has difficulties reading floppies made on other machines,
formatted by other operating systems. Try formatting a floppy in the XP
box and then transfer the data from the old floppy back to a machine
that will read it. Then copy that data onto the floppy you made in XP.
Or simply copy the data to a machine that will read it which has a
cd-rw drive and burn it onto a cd-r.
If the floppy was created on another computer, there may be an
incompatibility in the way the two diskette drives are aligned,
preventing reading of a diskette created on the other drive.
