I have been using Outlook 2003 for some time, but today when I opend the
program I received an error message "Unable to open your default e-mail
folders. Create new profile etc. etc." I created a new profile as directed
and keep getting the same error message. Any suggestions??

what specifics would you need to know?

Type of account would be handy to know; POP3, IMAP, HTtP, Exchange?
And what exactly did you change?

And did you start Outlook with the newly created profile or still with the
old one?
You can use Control Panel-> Mail-> Show Profiles to set a default profile or
set it to prompt you which one to use. Make sure you've selected the correct
one.

Yes - used the new profile - I have now gone back to an earlier version
(2000) of Outlook and it seems to be working - dropped 2003 - not sure what
this means?

You must have redone your configuration then because a mail profile created
in Outlook 2003 cannot be read in Outlook 2000 since Outlook 2003 creates
UNICODE pst-files for a new profile.
