What you're seeing is a S.M.A.R.T. failure - Self-Monitoring Analysis
and Reporting Technology. The message is being generated by your hard
disk drive, has nothing to do with Windows and is warning you that
something is very wrong. Google "SMART failure" for more info - but, you
really should listen to what it's telling you and back up all important
data immediately. Also, do not turn the computer off because it may
never boot up again. Once you have a good backup, you should find the
manufacturer of your hard drive, go to their support website and look
for free diagnostic software, which will tell you the exact nature of
the problem....

If you don't know the manufacturer of your hard drive, try this:
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html Although, if you know how to
use device manager, the information is there.

Good luck,
HJS
