I frequently get an error message similar to the following:
problem in ntfs.sys file
page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
tech info
stop:0x00000050 ntfs.sys address F84248F4

which causes the screen to freeze and I must restart and then the PC functions well until the error shows up again

Start here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmd_stp_ccgm.asp

and if that doesn't help see what the error msg. means.

Also:
Apparently this can be caused when the hard drive starts
to fill up and interferes with the operation of the page
file. This situation can be worsened by insufficient RAM
(which means the page file is used more often). 256RAM is
minimum for XP. 512 is better. Generally speaking, in XP
more RAM is better.

Hope something here helps.
