My computer won't play any music, and anytime I try to access the volume
control I get this error message :

"There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go
to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add
Hardware.
This program will close now."

I did what the message says, but it still doesn't work. Can anyone help me?

Are you getting any sounds on your PC besides system beeps? Has your sound
ever worked in the past? Your post is very vague for you state you did what
the message says. Did you install your soundcard, for that is what it wants
you to do? If you have utility disks that came with your PC, use them.
Otherwise, repost with more specifics.

Sorry for it being so vague. What I meant was, I went to control panel, and
then went to troubleshooting and all that and nothing seemed to apply to the
situation. But no, my computer won't play any other sounds, and it was
working just last week. We reinstalled the soundcards and the disks when we
reinstalled the harddrive, and everything worked perfectly for about two
weeks, and then suddenly it just stopped playing any sounds or music and
gives that error message.
