error message

I was booting my Windows 2000 laptop and I get the
message "Loader Error 3" and it stops responding. I have
gone to F8 and tried "Last known good" with no luck. Any
suggestions now?
 
I got into recovery console and went to c:\winnt\system32\config

then copied system.alt to system

This fixed the problem.
